Autoblog, a Birmingham, Mich.-based online automotive news and information site, announced Apple CarPlay the winner of its technology of the year feature award and the 2016 Tesla Model S P90D winner of the technology of the year car award at the 2016 North American International Auto Show Monday.
The awards honor both the best individual technology features in a vehicle along with the vehicle that showcases the most transformative, integrated technologies in the auto world.
Winners were selected based on testing conducted by Autoblog’s editorial staff and a guest judge from Engadget, a technology and culture publication.
“We wanted to take the opportunity to highlight the cutting-edge vehicles and technologies on display today,” Michael Austin, Autoblog editor in chief, said in a press release. “These winners will certainly transform the way consumers use their vehicles in the future.”
“Apple’s CarPlay represents the impact technology is having on our connected lives and brings an experience that is easy to use and enhances the lives of consumers who use this product,” Stephen Rouse, Autoblog’s director of product and technology, said in the release.
“Tesla’s Model S amazed us with self-driving capabilities that we thought were still years off. Three hours and one remote software update later, it could,” Adam Morath, Autoblog’s executive producer said in the release.
Autoblog is the official live webcast partner for the 2016 auto show. The exclusive livestream will be available on Autoblog.com and on go90.
The Autoblog Best of Technology Awards started in 2013, and this year represents the first time the awards have been presented at the Detroit show.
