The wait is over! In just days, the NAIAS will open to the largest media audience in North America. Greeting this group of global journalists will be the introduction of an expected 50 worldwide concept and production vehicles and more than 40 media events over the two days of Press Preview, in addition to some of the auto industry’s most significant awards and events. Vice President to Visit NAIAS
 
Vice President to Visit NAIAS

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden along with a number of other high-ranking government officials will be visiting the NAIAS next week. Visiting the NAIAS will be Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, Labor Secretary Thomas Perez, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy and NHTSA Deputy Administrator David Friedman. The NAIAS, too, expects visits from a number of Congressional members, state governors including Michigan’s own Gov. Rick Snyder, as well as international dignitaries.

Michelin Media Live: “If It’s Happening, It’s Happening Here”

Beginning Jan. 12, Michelin Media Live will provide journalists with live, real-time updates as well as a wealth of other resources, including 360-degree videos and high-res photos that journalists can use (under a Creative Commons license) to supplement their NAIAS coverage. The site will maintain a running list of all vehicle unveilings as they occur and feature a section that looks at the show through the eyes of the Michelin Man, one of the world's most beloved brand icons. Michelin Media Live will employ YouTube, Flickr, Twitter (hashtag #NAIAS) and Facebook to publish up-to-the-minute news and information. The site will carry live updates on Jan. 13 and 14 and will remain live throughout NAIAS. Media are invited to check out the live feed in the Michelin Media Center while grabbing a snack and refueling!

Breaking Auto News Alerts Enhance Official NAIAS Mobile App

New this year, push alerts will take the Official NAIAS 2014 Mobile App to yet another level of connectivity, providing auto enthusiasts with breaking news from the NAIAS show floor. Presented by WDIV-TV Local 4/ClickOnDetroit.com and the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA), the NAIAS Mobile App will send up-to-the-minute alerts to users when news – such as live reveals – happen. From a virtual map of the show floor to livestream video coverage of vehicle unveilings to tweets and more, the NAIAS 2014 Mobile App puts all the excitement of the NAIAS in the palm of Android and iPhone users. The NAIAS App also features a schedule of events and parking and shuttle info. Visit the iTunes App Store or Google Play market for Android to download this free app.

Charity Preview Set to Create Social Media Buzz

Charity Preview attendees will have more opportunities to network and engage with each other through social media efforts being put in place by the NAIAS and MLive Media Group, the Social Media Partner for Charity Preview. MLive Media Group digital Buzzboards – located on the show floor, in the concourse and near Studio 25 at NAIAS -- will feature tweets and Instagram posts streaming live from Charity Preview attendees. Red carpet entranceways, synonymous with Hollywood premieres, will welcome guests to Charity Preview, creating the perfect focal point for generating photographs -- ideal for posting on Facebook or sharing via Twitter (hashtag #charitypreview).

Pandora Features “NAIAS 25 Rocks” Music Mix

Pandora, the Official Music of the NAIAS 2014, will be playing host to music from a wide variety of Detroit and Michigan artists as it produces a personalized “NAIAS 25 Rocks” music mix to be showcased at the upcoming NAIAS. Highlighting music from such artists as Kid Rock, Eminem, White Stripes, Bob Seger, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Mitch Ryder and a long list of other Motown performers such as The Supremes and Marvin Gaye, “NAIAS 25 Rocks” music will be featured between various activities held on the NAIAS Atrium Stage and during the Studio 25 at NAIAS party on Charity Preview night. WXYZ-TV Gears Up for Charity Preview

WXYZ-TV Channel 7, the Official Television Partner of NAIAS Charity Preview, will begin its Red Carpet coverage of the event at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 with hosts Stephen Clark and Carolyn Clifford. Joining in covering all the excitement of the evening will be Glenda Lewis, JoAnne Purtan, Jeff Vaughn, Vic Faust, Alicia Smith and Keenan Smith. An encore presentation of the show will air on WXYZ-TV on Jan. 18 at 8:30 a.m.

Autoline Expands Supplier Symposium

Industry Preview attendees will have an additional opportunity to hear industry insight from OEM and supplier executives and auto analysts at Autoline’s Supplier Symposium – this year being expanded to two days on Wednesday, Jan. 15 and Thursday, Jan. 16. Held from 2-3 p.m. on both days in the Ford display, the panel discussions will be moderated by John McElroy, host of “Autoline” and WWJ commentator. Industry Preview attendees are invited to stop by the Ford display, and listen to the discussions. Autoline and other media websites will carry the live webcast. White House Cabinet Secretary to Speak in Detroit

U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker will be among the top government leaders and officials converging on Detroit during the NAIAS as she speaks before the Detroit Economic Club (DEC) luncheon audience on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at Cobo Center. Secretary Pritzker will highlight the Commerce Department’s newly defined priorities, which include supporting the auto industry through a focus on manufacturing, skilled workforce training and export growth. In addition, she will discuss ways government can work with the private sector to create conditions that can lead to additional growth. DEC Meeting Marks Debut for New
“Big Four”


Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan will join Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel at the Detroit Economic Club’s (DEC) “Big Four” meeting on Thursday, Jan. 16 -- marking the first time the leaders will appear together. Moderated by Carol Cain, Emmy-winning senior producer and host of CBS 62 Detroit’s “Michigan Matters” and Detroit Free Press columnist, the headline-grabbing meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Cobo’s new Grand Riverview Ballroom. Presented by the DEC and the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, along with CBS 62 Detroit, the always sold-out meeting will be taped for broadcast on “Michigan Matters” to air on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 11:30 a.m. on CBS 62. Cobo Center Features New Room Numbers

Along with Cobo Center’s exciting new look, visitors to the NAIAS will find new room numbers designed to make it easy to navigate the transformed venue. With the opening of the new Atrium on the riverside, Cobo Center has a “new” first floor. All rooms on that level have 100-series room numbers. The former main, or street level, is the “new” second floor with 200-series numbers. Carrying the new numbering system throughout the facility, the two upper floors of Cobo now have 300- and 400-series meeting room numbers. There are several meeting spaces without numbers, the major one being the Grand Riverview Ballroom. Exhibit hall names remain unchanged with Michigan Hall (“E”) on the first (river) level and Wayne (“D”), Oakland (“C”), Macomb (“B”) and Detroit (“A”) Halls on the second (street) level.

Actress Erin Cummings Returns to NAIAS

Visitors to the NAIAS will have the chance to meet actress Erin Cummings as she brings her warmth once again to Detroit. Cummings, who has appeared in a number of films and on television, including the TV series “Detroit 1-8-7,” is the founder of Mittens for Detroit, a community initiative that collects and distributes new gloves and mittens to children and adults in Detroit. Cummings will be at the NAIAS on Jan. 18-21, participating in the NAIAS parade each afternoon and signing autographs and meeting fans from 4:15 – 5:15 p.m. Fans seeking autographs are encouraged to bring new mittens or gloves for Mittens for Detroit or kindly asked to make a tax-deductible donation to the charity. In addition to her appearance at the NAIAS, Cummings will be hosting the 4th Annual “A Night of Giggles & Gloves Comedy Show,” a benefit for Mittens for Detroit, on Saturday, Jan. 25. Public Show Promises Family Fun

While the hundreds of vehicles on display are the stars of the NAIAS, there is plenty of additional family fun planned for the Public Show, including the all-new Paradeland in Michigan Hall’s new Kids’ Area. In Paradeland, visitors will experience larger-than-life props from the 2013 America’s Thanksgiving Parade, including sections of floats and the popular “Big Head” collection of famous Detroiters. The vehicle and parade excitement will continue on the main show floor with two daily NAIAS parades at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. WXYZ-TV Channel 7 Family Day on Friday, Jan. 24 will feature a full day of family activities from 12 – 9 p.m.

New at the NAIAS this year will be the debut of the Greektown Casino-Hotel Café located in the Cobo Atrium during the Public Show. Serving a variety of coffee drinks from cappuccino to latte and much more, the Café will provide auto show visitors with a cozy spot to relax while enjoying auto-related entertainment on the Atrium Stage screen. NAIAS attendees will also experience a reenergized menu at Cobo Center through its Detroit Made Kitchen, featuring healthy, natural and gluten-free foods and more fresh vegetables than ever before.

NAIAS Education Day Opens a World of Opportunities

School groups of just about every age – from college-bound high school students to impressionable preschoolers -- will learn more about cars and the auto industry at the upcoming NAIAS Education Day set for Wednesday, Jan. 22. With the support of the PNC Foundation, NAIAS Education Day will bring Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) education down to even the earliest grade levels. As part of its “Grow Up Great” early childhood education initiative, more than 400 Detroit Public Schools preschoolers will attend NAIAS Education Day. NAIAS Education Day will also feature STEAM workshops held by the U.S. Army, Ally Financial and industry/academia partners for over 700 high school students and 120 educators. DAC to Celebrate 100 Years in the Motor City

In 2015, the Detroit Athletic Club (DAC), long known as home to auto industry leaders and host to many private parties and events in conjunction with the NAIAS – especially during Charity Preview – will mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of its magnificent Madison Avenue clubhouse. Plans for a year-long celebration are well underway and include activities in connection with the NAIAS.
