NAIAS Prepares to Welcome the World to Detroit

The world comes to Detroit in a few short weeks, and the NAIAS is ready to greet it. With global manufacturers poised to unveil a long list of new vehicles, the vast majority of which will be worldwide reveals, all eyes will be on the Motor City. In fact, it’s anticipated that vehicle introductions at NAIAS 2013 will top that of 2012. The floor plan has been set, and the show is building -- with more new vehicles being revealed, more new events planned and renovations at Cobo Center proceeding full throttle. We’re ready to take the wraps off the NAIAS 2013.

Special Media Preview Announced for The Gallery


 
Special Media Preview Announced for The Gallery

The Gallery, an exclusive NAIAS event featuring a collection of some of the world’s sexiest ultra-luxury and performance vehicles, will now include a special media preview on Sunday, Jan. 13. Held from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the MGM Grand Detroit, the press event will be open to NAIAS-credentialed media and will feature at least 25 vehicles from some of the industry’s most prestigious marques, including Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserti, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Porsche, Land Rover and Jaguar. The media preview follows on the heels of The Gallery’s private premiere on Saturday, Jan. 12. There, an invitation-only group of luxury automotive connoisseurs will preview the vehicles and enjoy a strolling pre-glow dinner with renowned celebrity Chef Wolfgang Puck. In addition to private invitees, NAIAS officials are making available a very limited number of tickets for this exclusive Saturday evening event. Tickets are $500 each. EyesOnDesign Launches All-New Award, Designer Judges' Panel

EyesOn Design is introducing two new facets to its already premier automotive design awards program at NAIAS. The all-new Catalyst Award will be given at the Tuesday, Jan. 15 event, recognizing an executive who has championed great automotive design. Bob Lutz will be the recipient of this first-ever award with 2013 EyesOn Design Lifetime Design Achievement Award winner Wayne Cherry presenting the honor. Immediately following the EyesOn Design Awards will be a new Designer Judges’ Panel, featuring some of the world’s leading auto designers discussing trends in interior and exterior automotive design. The EyesOn Design Awards are given to the best production and concept vehicles making their North American or worldwide debut at the NAIAS. Led by EyesOn Design’s founding chair and noted designer, Tom Gale, the awards are selected by leaders of the automotive design community. The awards are presented as a benefit for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, a division of Henry Ford Department of Ophthalmology.

The One Show Awards Bring Special Presentation to NAIAS 2013

The One Show, one of advertising’s most prestigious international awards competitions, is headed to NAIAS on Tuesday, Jan. 15, bringing with it the Top 10 Automobile Commercials from the past 25 years. Held in the new Cobo Atrium, the One Show special presentation will showcase the 10 best auto commercials, selected from over 60 award-winning entries and juried by a panel of over 100 top advertising creatives and journalists. In addition to the Top 10 at NAIAS, the One Show will also be announcing the public’s choice award for the best automobile commercial as determined by the car-buying public. NAIAS Unveils Exclusive Dealer VIP Access

For the first time ever, new car auto dealers will have the exclusive opportunity to gain VIP access to the NAIAS on Wednesday, Jan. 16, beginning at 8 a.m., hours before the official noon opening of Industry Preview. Through the show’s new Exclusive Dealer VIP Access, U.S. auto dealers can see firsthand the latest concept and production vehicles revealed just days before at Press Preview. NAIAS officials report a positive dealer response to this new access program and are even seeing some OEMs planning private receptions for their dealers during that morning. Dealers interested in purchasing Exclusive Dealer VIP Access tickets (up to four tickets per dealer) should contact the NAIAS at 248.643.0250 or tickets@dada.org. Tickets are $100 each.

Michigan Hall Mobility Center Returns to NAIAS

Momentum is building for the return of the NAIAS Michigan Hall Mobility Center, featuring innovative transportation options for persons whose lives are challenged by limited mobility. The 2012 Michigan Hall Mobility Center was one of the largest auto show mobility displays ever, including specially equipped vehicles from several OEMs and vehicle modifiers. Teen Singer Songwriter to Kickoff Charity Preview

Although just 17, singer songwriter Callaghan Smerek has made a name for herself, and she will be showcasing some of that talent at the Charity Preview Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony on Friday, Jan. 18. Smerek has been writing and performing her own music since she was a small child. Recently she worked with pop star Colbie Caillat on songs for Caillat’s holiday album, and she has written songs for commercials, including one for Wendy’s restaurants. NAIAS Calendar of Events Builds as Show Nears

The NAIAS Calendar of Events is taking shape with a host of events that have become synonymous with auto show preview week. The Society of Automotive Analysts’ 26th Annual Automotive Outlook Conference with the theme “Welcome to Prosperity Island!” will take place on Sunday, Jan. 13. Also on Jan. 13 is the 17th Annual Urban Wheel Awards, the Official Multicultural Event of the NAIAS. Attended by more than 2,500, the Urban Wheel Awards honor companies and individuals who have made significant progress in embracing diversity. On Jan. 15-17, attendees of the Automotive News World Congress will hear from top level decision-makers as they discuss “Driving Change: Global Uncertainties/Local Opportunities.” Real Times Media and Who’s Who Publishing will launch Driven III, the third edition of its tribute to African-American achievement in the auto industry, on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The Detroit Media Partnership will also present its Detroit Free Press Automotive Leadership Awards on Jan. 16. On Thursday, Jan. 17, the Multicultural Media Luncheon will honor minorities for their achievements in the automotive industry. Also on Jan. 17 will be the AutoWeek Design Forum, focusing on the theme “Design for the Next Generation.” Inforum will hold its Auto Show Breakfast on Friday, Jan. 18, featuring keynote speaker Sergio Marchionne.

Aisin Drive Green Experience Continues to Welcome Vehicles

NAIAS continues to invite global auto manufacturers to register their electric and hybrid vehicles for the Aisin Drive Green Experience indoor test track at the NAIAS. There is no charge for vehicles to participate, but manufacturers must provide product specialists/drivers. For further information or to sign up a vehicle, click here.
